All songs
were written by Steve and Chris. Here's a full tracklisting with
a bit of background.
1.
ROLL UP
- A short introduction to the album using the old carousel tune
"When We Are In Love".
2.
CARNIVAL
- "Welcome to the Carnival" : an introduction to the
band.... or a poor mans Sultans of Swing.
3.
JEZEBEL
- This song includes Steve's thoughts about not judging by appearances,
avoiding peer pressure and then ultimately following your own
heart.
4.
FOUR NOTES
-
A good old traditional waltz.
5.
HEARTBREAKER
- Originally written as a guitar excercise, Steve heard it and
wrote the melody to "fill in the gaps between the solos".
6.
CAROLINA
- Inspired and written whilst playing around with an unusual
tuning borrowed from Chris Whitley, this appeared on the Tellurider
album as a full band song with electric guitars and drums. We
now prefer this as an acoustic song with the intro dedicated
to Chris
Whitley,
who tragically died in November 2005.
7.
THESE AIN'T THE DREAMS - We gave this tune a bright, lively feel
reminiscent of the dustbowl era type songs. It's message is that
compromise can sometimes be a good thing.
8.
FALL TO PIECES
- Shaun's workshop is part of a farm in Sutton Scarsdale. The
biggest problem for us is that it's such a beautiful setting
that it's hard to get any work done. We did manage to focus long
enough to record this song there though.
9.
GET 'EM WHEN I'M GONE - Seize the opportunity, grab the moment.
"Smile on my face because it's Ladies Night,"......indeed.
10.
HOMETOWN
-
This is a song about searching for something that can often turn
out to have been on your doorstep all along.
11.
THE PEACOCK TREE
- Steve returns to the theme of noticing what may be staring
you in the face with this song originally inspired by a local
tree which had Peacocks nesting in it.
12.
FOUR NOTES (REPRISE) - .....take care and thanks for coming
to our little carnival.
We had
a great time making this album. Here are a few pictures, most
of which were taken whilst in the process of recording. |
